The Little Humor of my Day

A funny thing popped into my head as I was feeding my kitty the other day. I had one of those days where you make light of things and you have a rather joking nature about you. So there I was tripping over my cat while I was cooking dinner. Yes I almost burned myself but it is now a ritual to feed her while cooking dinner. Really it is a ritual for safety reasons-so I don't trip with something hot or sharp!

So as I am tripping over her, I say to myself yes it must be feeding time. For some reason on this particular day as I crack open the can of cat food, I remembered an advertisement for a cat food company. I really can't remember the company but sure remember hearing the advertisement stating that they put stuff in their food that your cat would eat in the wild.

Ok, I thought this advertisement was a bit strange when I heard it a while back but never really put much thought into it until the other day. As I cracked the can open (I do not remember the brand but I know it wasn't the brand I use), this advertisement came into my head and I just started cracking up laughing. My family was beginning to wonder what in the world I was laughing about-I am only cooking dinner!

What had me laughing was the fact that this company stated they put what your cat would eat in the wild into their cat food. Let's think about this for a minute. Cat food has a meat base, it may be mixed with cheese or something, but it has a meat in it. What would a wild cat (to clarify-a wild cat of the house cat size) eat in the wild? Well, I have seen many wild cats eat mice, birds, grass, bugs and other little things it can get it's paws on. Ok so now thinking back to the advertisement stating that they put what your cat would naturally eat in their food, what is really in their food? Are they trying to tell us quietly that they put disease infested mice or maybe a grasshopper in the food? I say quietly as they don't really specify what it is that your cat would eat in the wild. I have never seen a can of cat food say it was rat with a grasshopper variety or pigeon with a hint of grass! Not to sound gross but I am just trying to figure this out now that I was thinking and laughing about it.

All the cat food I get is tuna, tuna and egg, salmon, chicken, beef, cheese and similar to these. Seriously, have you ever seen a cat in the wild (besides a tiger or cat of the tiger's size) take on a cow? When was the last time you have seen a house cat go fishing in the deep blue sea? And I can't help laughing at the image I have of the cat trying to catch a salmon in the cold rivers. It would also take a big cat to chase down and catch a wild turkey-house cats are too smart to try to catch these things. They know they can't do it.

So now I am asking, "What exactly do they put in the cat food that our cats would eat in the wild?" I am dying to know this now! This was just a thought I had, the advertisement was real but all other thoughts about the advertisement was just me thinking silly thoughts. No cat's were harmed in my thoughts about this advertisement, my kitty is purring next to me at this exact moment content from eating her chicken (or well it says chicken) dinner.

If anybody has any idea what this cat food company can possibly be talking about, please do share! I did a similar (not the same) post on one of my blogs so if you see similar thoughts here on my personal blog with less details, they are still my thoughts.

Hi Cat R,

Yeah it has always made me wonder! I usually stick to Friskies canned and Purina dry as my cat has been ok eating it for the past 10 years. I really had to wonder tho when they said they put in what your cats naturally eat in the wild! How come it says tuna on the can?

I've heard some stories about what gets put in dog food and it makes me sick. Especially when I read that corn is the main ingredient. ...I always thought that domesticated wolves aka dogs eat meat as their main food source. Hmmmh!
